Jazz Mafia’s Cosa Nostra Strings
Bay Area-based Cosa Nostra Strings (CNS) specializes in string based original hybrid crossover music. This five-piece powerhouse crew features conservatory trained classical and jazz musicians who find a common language in their passion for the music that is found in-between the lines. The unique instrumentation of cello, viola, violin, trombone, bass, vocals and percussion provides the perfect vehicle to explore the edges of the perceived musical universe.
Thriving in collaborative environments, CNS was featured at Kennedy Center in collaboration with GRAMMY-winning composer Mason Bates in 2019. Their union yields a provocative, precise, punk-rock personality and a highly distinguished multi-style sound spanning centuries and genres. In any given set you’ll hear diverse influences from around the world: funk, folk, hip-hop, western chamber music, jazz, and even an 80’s rock ballad for good measure.
