Maurice Tani is a veteran singer-songwriter and band leader of the Alt-Country – Americana scene. He has released six critically-acclaimed albums of original material over the past dozen years. Tani has constructed a repertoire of rye humor and darker romantic rumination often described as Oblique Americana and Twang-Noir, Tani calls it “Supercalifornographic”.
Opening the evening is the incredible Sons of the Soul Revivers gospel group. Formed in 1970, the Sons are the lifelong work of brothers Dwayne, James and Walter Morgan, specializing in traditional gospel quartet singing. One doesn’t even need to be a believer to be swept away by the sheer excitement and passion of a Sons performance. The fact that they are all over Maurice’s new album makes this a perfect co-bill.
