SUMMARY:Virtual | The Visionaries Writing Contest by Inkitt
DESCRIPTION:Some of the most fascinating lives of our time belong to the architects of Silicon Valley: the college dropouts\, the rebels\, the obsessives who rewired how we live\, work\, and connect. Inkitt invites you to craft a biographical narrative inspired by a visionary of the modern era. Your story doesn’t need to be a novel — it can be a short story\, an interpretation\, or a close-to-fact portrait of a life that shaped our world. Think The Social Network\, not a Wikipedia entry. The deadline to submit is July 31\, 2026 at 11:59pm. \nInfo & Tickets

SUMMARY:Duncan Sherwood Forbes - Weight of Air
DESCRIPTION:The Grand Gallery is excited to announce the opening of Duncan Sherwood-Forbes – Weight of Air. Forbes\, a multimedia artist based in Oakland specializes in figurative metalwork. His sculptures have been exhibited at galleries and fairs both nationally and internationally. His approach to wire is rooted in line drawing. “I use wire to divide air\, treating space itself as the primary medium.” This effect commands attention as the figures appear suspended in mid-thought. Negative space is just as relevant as the wire itself. \nInfo & Tickets

SUMMARY:La Comedia of Errors
DESCRIPTION:A bilingual\, joy-soaked adaptation brimming with music\, physical comedy\, and cultural collision\, this vibrant production envisions Shakespeare’s tale of mistaken identity as a telenovela\, creating fast\, funny\, multilingual celebration for all ages. \nArtistic Director\, Jon Tracy\, says “This production is built to delight—a whirlwind of mistaken identities\, surprises\, and pure chaotic fun. But what excites me most is the deeper invitation it offers. La Comedia of Errors asks what it means to belong\, and how we recognize ourselves in one another. SUMMARY:Monet and Venice
DESCRIPTION:Although Claude Monet visited Venice only once\, his paintings of the city are among his most dazzling. This exhibition\, co-organized with the Brooklyn Museum\, is the first dedicated to Monet’s Venetian cityscapes since their debut over a century ago. Featuring more than 100 artworks\, the exhibition places Monet’s Venice paintings alongside select works from across his career\, including his Water Lilies\, as well as Venetian views by artists such as Renoir\, Sargent\, and Canaletto. Unlike the bustling scenes painted by other artists\, Monet’s Venice is eerily deserted\, its architecture\, buildings\, and canals dissolving in an encompassing\, hazy light he described as the enveloppe. This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to experience Monet’s vision of the famed Italian city. \nInfo & Tickets

SUMMARY:Object Oriented: Abstraction and Design in the BAMPFA Collection
DESCRIPTION:Object Oriented: Abstraction and Design in the BAMPFA Collection explores how artists have represented\, reshaped\, and reimagined familiar objects\, drawing attention to the role of design in our everyday lives. This exhibition encourages acts of close looking\, asking viewers to question their immediate recognition of what they see. In this way\, an object that might at first appear to be a chair could also be considered a sculpture\, a stand-in for a body\, or simply a piece of metal. \nInfo & Tickets

SUMMARY:Rose B. Simpson: LEXICON
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition brings together two seemingly distinct art forms: Pueblo pottery and classic cars. In 2014\, Rose B. Simpson\, a mixed-media artist from Santa Clara Pueblo\, New Mexico\, refurbished a 1985 Chevy El Camino\, transforming it with a black-on-black Tewa pottery motif. Simpson titled her work Maria in honor of renowned artist Maria Martinez (San Ildefonso Pueblo\, 1887–1980)\, who popularized the distinctive black-on-black style. Ten years later\, this exhibition debuts Simpson’s second customized car\, a 1964 Buick Riviera painted in vibrant polychrome. \nInfo & Tickets

SUMMARY:Students on Strike: A New Installation in OMCA’s Gallery of California History
DESCRIPTION:Students on Strike is a new installation opening in the OMCA Gallery of California History. The installation explores the enduring legacy of student activism at San Francisco State University by comparing the 1968-1969 student strike that established the nation’s first Black Studies Department and first College of Ethnic Studies to the recent campus protests against the war in Gaza. Through historical and contemporary posters and photographs\, the intimate feature shows how students have consistently demanded justice and accountability from institutions\, then and now. \nInfo & Tickets
