SUMMARY:A Streetcar Named Desire
DESCRIPTION:Tennessee Williams’s exploration of family\, sex\, death\, and decay is a haunting: family\, trauma\, relentlessly recurring patterns of destruction. It’s about the abuse we heap upon ourselves\, and the pleasures we use to forget. In that spirit\, director Nick Westrate and an ensemble of four astonishing New York theater actors set out to create a performance of the play like no other. By presenting Tennessee Williams’s complete\, unabridged text\, with just four performers—no props\, no set—this production can exist anywhere. It strips bare to the bones the greatest piece of American drama. \nInfo & Tickets

SUMMARY:Antibalas
DESCRIPTION:It’s hard to believe that more than twenty years have passed since Antibalas’s humble beginning as a neighborhood dance/protest band in the block parties and underground parties in pre-gentrified Williamsburg\, Brooklyn. Over the past two decades\, they have evolved into what The Guardian called “one of the world’s finest Afrobeat bands” while enjoying equal renown for their cross-genre collaborations with legends of popular music. With a heavy balance of experience and new blood\, the group leaps into their new Daptone Records full-length “Fu Chronicles.” \nInfo & Tickets

SUMMARY:Marga Gomez’s Spanish Stew
DESCRIPTION:Spanish Stew is very funny but not stand-up comedy. The storytelling is set in 1976 and more about passion\, freedom and family than mere nostalgia. After being outed by her flamboyant mother\, young Marga\, like a Latina Patty Hearst\, escapes her New York home for 1976 San Francisco. When a survival restaurant job requires her to recreate a treasured family recipe\, Marga’s Spanish Stew unites her with both her family of origin and her chosen San Francisco family of Queer\, punk and avant-garde. Spanish Stew’s first work-in-progress performance was in August 2024 at The Marsh’s “In Front of Your Eyes Festival.” Its 2025 “World Premiere” took place at New Conservatory Theater\, San Francisco. \nInfo & Tickets

SUMMARY:Cunning Folk
DESCRIPTION:Cunning Folk considers magical practice\, practitioners\, and their persecution in early modern European artwork and material culture (c.1500–1750). The term “cunning folk” typically describes wise people who knew traditional spells and remedies believed to cure and protect. The works on paper\, painting\, and personal items on view in this intimate\, single gallery exhibition more broadly explore the historical concept of “cunning” in connection to many forms of secret magical rites and knowledge\, from folk charms to occult natural philosophy to diabolic witchcraft. Early modern artists also helped construct the idea of magical figures as a threat to the prevailing social order–particularly through the rise of print culture–and here\, a selection of American contemporary artworks reconjure these histories. \nInfo & Tickets

The Beech home is full of custom display cases\, each showcasing an array of jewelry of various styles and functions. Together\, they evoke 18th century Wunderkammern\, or cabinets of curiosity. \nTraditionally\, a Wunderkammer housed objects that not only displayed wealth but also embodied humanist philosophies aimed at deepening our understanding of the world. SUMMARY:Black in Berlin
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition marks the U.S. premiere of Black in Berlin\, a portrait-based project by Ethiopian-born\, Berlin-based photographer Yero Adugna Eticha\, presented by the Goethe-Institut San Francisco. \nThe project emerged in the aftermath of Berlin’s silent 2020 Black Lives Matter demonstration\, which drew 15\,000 participants following the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. Yet the project’s origins trace back more than fifteen years\, when Eticha envisioned using the camera to make his Black friends—and by extension\, Berlin’s broader Black communities—visible on their own terms. \nInfo & Tickets

DESCRIPTION:Jitish Kallat’s installation Covering Letter (Terranum Nuncius) engages with sounds and images launched into space in 1977 as a cosmic greeting from humanity. SUMMARY:Paul Klee + Ray Johnson: Typofacture
DESCRIPTION:Writing functions not only as language\, but also as a visual and even tactile form. Famed artist and educator Josef Albers imparted this idea to his students at Black Mountain College\, a former liberal arts school in North Carolina\, where artist Ray Johnson studied from 1945 to 1948. In an exercise called “typofacture\,” Albers asked students in his design course to create drawings mimicking printed or handwritten text. After observing textures on surfaces — like speckles on a wall or patterns in a raked garden path — they applied the concept to printed text\, which bears the imprint of its production\, whether by hand or machine. \nInfo & Tickets
