SUMMARY:K/S/R\, Nishi-Smith + Nakamura\, Djll + Day + Corcoran\, Max Abner
DESCRIPTION:K/S/R (the New Mexico & Hudson Valley based trio of Ben Kujawski\, Abigail Smith & Justin Rhody) have been performing and recording together since 2022. During that time they’ve released multiple cassettes\, CD’s and vinyl records\, and devastated audiences across the country with multi-projector expanded cinema performances. On the group’s recent ‘Already in Heaven’ LP\, violin\, percussion\, lap steel\, accordion\, flute\, guitar\, harmonica\, and rhodes piano are stretched\, damaged and made to sing through various extended techniques. The trio’s non-concentric approach to collective improvisation mirrors the dark harmonic density and symbiotic formal structures of the cosmos. Industrial work zones are also a major inspiration. K/S/R’s intention is to drag the listener through an amorphous subterranean chimera toward an ever elusive horizon. Desert Crawl. \nInfo & Tickets

The lives of nine individuals living in Lagos are intertwined after software developers release a new rideshare app\, which soon attracts the attention of corrupt police officers and developers looking not to uplift a community\, but to merely profit from it. \nInfo & Tickets

SUMMARY:Days and Nights in the Forest
DESCRIPTION:Four young men leave Calcutta for a few days in the country\, trailing their westernized careerist attitudes\, a middle-class indifference to the lower orders\, and a self-satisfaction that leaves them closed to experience. Out of a series of delightfully funny mishaps as they eagerly try to pursue acquaintance with their two promisingly attractive neighbors\, Satyajit Ray gradually distills a magical world of absolute stasis: a shimmering summer’s day\, a tranquil forest clearing\, the two women strolling in a shady avenue\, wistful yearnings as love and the need for love echo plangently. Beautifully shot and acted\, it’s probably Ray’s masterpiece. \nInfo & Tickets

SUMMARY:Kouté vwa
DESCRIPTION:A family’s long-carried grief forms the heart of this highly personal blend of fiction and documentary\, set in French Guiana. Teenage Melrick spends his seemingly carefree summers with his grandmother in the capitol\, Cayenne\, but his desire to learn drumming opens up his family’s memories of another boy who once drummed\, before his life was taken away. Part coming-of-age story\, part reflection on the endemic and senseless violence that still haunts the Caribbean\, the film also offers\, “on a deeper layer\, a story about grief and forgiveness that also deals with the persisting consequences of colonialism: a violence that equally cannot pass” (CineEuropa). \nInfo & Tickets

SUMMARY:MoAD & SFJAZZ present African Rhythms Alumni Quintet
DESCRIPTION:SFJAZZ and MoAD are proud to co-present an intimate performance and conversation with the African Rhythms Alumni Quintet on Saturday\, April 11th at 1pm. Highlighting the legacy of legendary pianist and NEA Jazz Master Randy Weston\, the Alumni Quintet celebrates Weston’s vital contributions to the jazz continuum by bringing his compositions and arrangements to the stage. The ensemble members—all of whom share a close and long-term relationship with Weston—transmit “the very spirit” of Weston’s music. We are thrilled to welcome T.K. Blue (saxophone\, flute and musical director)\, Chief Baba Neil Clarke (percussion)\, Alex Blake (bass)\, Ku-umba Frank Lacy (trombone)\, and Sharp Radway (piano) to share the timeless legacy of Mr. Randy Weston! \nInfo & Tickets
