Intergenerational and multi-genre\, the ensemble reimagines what an orchestra can sound like\, look like\, and represent\, rooted in a simple principle: our music\, played by our people\, in community with one another. \nThe repertoire will move fearlessly across generations and genres\, featuring original works by Kev Choice\, a composition by Cava Menzies\, and dynamic orchestral arrangements spanning Stevie Wonder\, Bay Area Hyphy\, hip-hop classics\, R&B staples\, and works by African American classical composers. More than a concert\, it is designed to be a living\, communal experience\, with audiences singing\, dancing\, and vibing along to a rich\, soulful sonic palette that moves seamlessly from the symphony hall to the block. \nLed by Artistic Director Kev Choice—an Oakland pianist\, composer\, producer\, and MC\, classically and jazz-trained yet deeply rooted in hip-hop\, soul\, and R&B—the orchestra unites strings\, winds\, brass\, percussion\, rhythm section\, choir\, vocalists\, MCs\, DJs\, spoken word\, and more for a powerful\, interactive\, and dynamic musical experience. \nThe choir is directed by acclaimed Oakland composer and educator Cava Menzies\, founder/director of CO-LLAB Choir.
