SUMMARY:Manon
DESCRIPTION:Her first taste of love. Her gamble for more.\n\nManon is young\, beautiful\, and has a taste for the finer things … which is why her family is sending her to a convent. En route to her new life\, she falls for the handsome Chevalier des Grieux and they run away to Paris\, the city of love. But their youthful ardor is threatened by fatherly disapproval\, and Manon finds herself with a choice to make: wait alone in poverty or embrace the wealth of a new lover?\n\nManon composer Jules Massenet’s soaring score captures the intensity of young love as Manon and Des Grieux’s relationship endures twist after turn. Manon must navigate a path that careens between the radiant glow of love and the allure of wealth.\n\nMusic Director Eun Sun Kim’s conducting and Vincent Boussard’s cinematic production design brings the drama of Manon into emotional relief. The shimmering stage illuminates both the Champagne effervescence of Paris and the sensual idealism of young love. \n(Check organizer/venue website to confirm event details.) \nInfo & Tickets

SUMMARY:Lust for Rust
DESCRIPTION:Rust is an eco-friendly\, inexpensive\, and easy medium for dyeing fabric or paper. Found objects that are made of iron or steel can corrode to produce iron oxide\, creating interesting\, often unexpected imprints. Colors can range from taupe to oranges and browns and can transform already colored fabric into other hues. In the first session you will repurpose used cloth (cotton and linen are best; silk\, wool\, thread\, and yarn are also possible) by putting it through a rust dye bath to achieve different depths of color. In the second session you will examine the shapes and colors that were created and determine what kind of stitching will best enhance them. Your creations may be framed\, added to quilts\, collaged with other artworks\, or integrated into clothing. Mirka Knaster creates 2-D and 3-D fiber art in her studio overlooking the Pacific Ocean on the Sonoma coast. She works with old and new textiles and handmade paper from Asia\, dyes used cloth with indigo and rust\, and incorporates design samples that would otherwise enter a landfill. With degrees in three cross-cultural fields\, she has found inspiration around the world and in her local environment. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is in private collections across the U. S. \nShe has taught a variety of classes in Northern California\, Chicago\, and Korea. She was one of the founders of Korea Textile Tours and curated several exhibits of Korean fiber artists. A former board member of the Textile Arts Council\, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco\, and chairperson of the tours and workshops committee\, she organized fiber art events in the Greater Bay Area. SUMMARY:Shaboozey - Outlaws Never Die Tour
DESCRIPTION:Shaboozey brings the Outlaws Never Die Tour to The Masonic\, extending his boundary-crossing mix of country\, hip-hop and Americana into a cinematic live show. The tour follows The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales\, a concept album built around an outlaw story\, hard-edged hooks and modern Western imagery. \nThe set connects that new chapter with the Virginia-born artist’s breakthrough catalog\, including the global hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy).” Expect a performance shaped by storytelling\, genre-blurring production and the communal energy that made Shaboozey one of contemporary music’s most distinctive crossover voices. \n(Check organizer/venue website to confirm event details.) \nInfo & Tickets

It was considered one of the most racist suburbs in America. CBS News and Newsweek covered the story. The US Commission on Civil Rights conducted hearings. And then\, we moved to town.” \nCRITICALLY ACCLAIMED \n“A beautiful mix of wry humor and heartbreak\, indignation and inspiration\, a singular story of extreme isolation that speaks to anyone who’s ever felt out of place.” — San Francisco Chronicle \n(Check organizer/venue website to confirm event details.) \nInfo & Tickets

SUMMARY:Vishnu’s Cosmic Ocean
DESCRIPTION:Southeast Asia’s largest ancient bronze makes a once-in-a-lifetime stop in San Francisco. \nA thousand years ago\, a colossal statue of the Hindu god Vishnu reclined on a serpent-shaped pedestal in a temple in the Cambodian kingdom of Angkor. Newly conserved\, this national treasure has toured four major institutions worldwide in the past year. The Asian Art Museum of San Francisco is the only West Coast venue where the monumental statue can be seen before it returns to Cambodia. \nFor the first time in centuries\, audiences can experience the full\, nearly twenty-foot-long scale of “the most important bronze artwork of Cambodia\,” says Chhay Visoth\, director of the National Museum of Cambodia. “This is the last chance that this great masterpiece will be out of the country\,” notes Visoth. \nThe awe-inspiring West Mebon Reclining Vishnu offers a window onto the grandeur and sophistication of the Khmer civilization. “Cambodia takes immense pride in the creations of our ancestors\,” says Minister of Culture and Fine Arts Phoeurng Sackona\, “whose works\, despite being thousands of years old\, continue to serve as the nation’s greatest cultural ambassadors on the world stage.” \nThe statue’s original location — a temple surrounded by the expansive waters of a reservoir — echoes the Hindu creation story in which a sleeping Vishnu\, drifting in the primordial “cosmic ocean” atop a coiled serpent\, dreams the universe into existence\, explains exhibition curator Natasha Reichle\, associate curator of Southeast Asian Art at the Asian Art Museum. \n(Check organizer/venue website to confirm event details.) \nInfo & Tickets
