He served as Director of Music and Organist at the Historic Third Baptist Church of San Francisco and was the Founding Director of the Bridge to Arts and Music Program in association with the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. James Parrish Smith is past Dean of the San Francisco Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) and served as the chair of the Worship Committee for the 2024 National Convention of the AGO held in San Francisco.
