SUMMARY:Top Chefs
DESCRIPTION:A hit at the 2026 Summer Fest\, Top Chefs are a San Francisco hip-hop fusion band blending hip-hop\, jazz\, R&B and soul into a live experience that is both forward-thinking and rooted in tradition. With performances at the Barbican in London and the Vienna Hofburg Royal Palace\, they command stages across four continents. \nTheir lineup features an all-star cast led by emcee and frontman Afterthought\, with vocalists Sunday and ASH\, alongside Shogun on bass\, Loveberry on guitar\, Jabari on drums\, Des on keys\, Will Shannon on trombone and TJ on saxophone. The Top Chefs perform Afterthought’s original music alongside R&B\, soul and early 2000s classics\, and have backed legendary Bay Area artists including Mistah F.A.B.\, Nef The Pharaoh and Dru Down. \nMore than a backing band\, The Top Chefs create an immersive live experience that pushes musical boundaries while bringing audiences together. That spirit fuels Stoop Sessions\, their live performance series filmed on the stoop of Afterthought’s childhood home in the Fillmore District. What began when the band recorded a Tiny Desk audition on the front steps and drew a spontaneous crowd has grown into a viral\, community-rooted platform where a rotating cast of Bay Area artists have their songs reimagined live by the band. Paired with their 2026 debut album\, it’s a project born from a desire to bring joy to the neighborhoods that shaped them. \n(Check organizer/venue website to confirm event details.) \nInfo & Tickets

SUMMARY:Sandra & Katrina Pacheco: Music of Amalia Rodrigues
DESCRIPTION:Mother and daughter Sandra and Katrina Pacheco carry the tradition of fado\, Portugal’s soulful song of longing and melancholy\, to Bay Area audiences. For this Break Room set\, they turn to the repertoire of Amalia Rodrigues\, the legendary “Queen of Fado” who did more than anyone to popularize the genre around the world and remains the best-selling Portuguese artist in the history of recorded music. \nSandra Pinheiro Pacheco was born in Pawtucket\, Rhode Island to Portuguese immigrants from the Azorean island of Faial. She loved singing as a child and started performing on stage as a sophomore at San Jose High School\, where she joined the choir as lead soprano\, studied Portuguese and was among the early participants in the International Baccalaureate program. It was there she first learned of Amalia in Portuguese class. When Manuel Escobar\, who had heard her sing many times\, encouraged her to consider fado\, she never dreamed she would come to love singing it. She gave her first fado performance in Santa Clara on March 14\, 2003 and has sung throughout the Bay Area and Central Valley ever since. \nKatrina Nicole Pacheco was born and raised in San José\, her father from the Azorean island of Graciosa and her mother from Pawtucket. Deeply involved in the Portuguese community\, she has danced in carnaval for 15 years and plays clarinet in a Portuguese marching band. SUMMARY:Scott Amendola\, Jeff Parker & Paul Bryan
DESCRIPTION:Few drummers in jazz have collaborated as fruitfully with era-defining guitarists as Berkeley’s Scott Amendola\, who for this trio joins forces with the endlessly inventive guitarist Jeff Parker and bassist Paul Bryan to celebrate their new album. For Amendola\, the drum kit isn’t so much an instrument as a musical portal. An ambitious composer\, bandleader\, electronics explorer and first-call accompanist\, he has forged a singular path within and beyond jazz through his work with a who’s who of inventive musicians\, among them Nels Cline\, Charlie Hunter\, Jim Campilongo\, Jenny Scheinman and Bill Frisell. \nHe first gained international attention as the only non-guitarist in T. J. Kirk\, the Grammy Award-nominated quartet\, and has toured and recorded with Hunter ever since. Over three decades the New Jersey native turned Bay Area force has built a large and varied body of work\, and since 2014 has served as an Associate Professor in UC Berkeley’s Jazz Program. \nGuitarist Jeff Parker\, a restlessly creative voice known for his work with Tortoise and a long line of genre-crossing projects\, is Amendola’s foil across several of his most acclaimed recordings. Bassist Paul Bryan\, a Grammy Award-winning producer best known for several albums by Aimee Mann\, anchors the low end. Released November 6\, 2026 on CD and vinyl by Jealous Butcher Records\, their album Scott Amendola Trio PDXMMXVIII with Jeff Parker and Paul Bryan draws much of its material from Lift\, Amendola’s acclaimed 2010 trio album with Parker. They bring that music to the stage in two one-hour\, separately ticketed sets at 7:00 PM and 8:30 PM. \n(Check organizer/venue website to confirm event details.) \nInfo & Tickets
