On Friday, July 12th, a bevy of Black art collectors, philanthropists and artists hosted over 200 attendees for the Cocktails and Creatives Fundraiser in support of San Francisco Mayor London Breed’s re-election campaign.

Mayor Breed is the first African-American woman Mayor in San Francisco’s history. She grew up in public housing in the Fillmore neighborhood and served as the executive director of the African American Art and Culture Complex in that same community.

Mayor Breed is also known as the “arts Mayor,” reinvesting $60 million annually into San Francisco’s diverse Black communities through the Dream Keepers Initiative, which included investing $18.4M in grants to support for Black artists.

The Mayor additionally invested in increased programming in cultural spaces designed for and by Black folk, increased the number of Black artists and producers, and grew resourcing for Black creatives and organizations, funding organizations such as the African American Art and Culture Complex and the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Company (SFBATCO).

Mayor Breed has always shown up for the Black arts community so, it was only fitting that we show up for her.

Chair/Organizer: Tyra Fennell
