Jean Sibelius’s rousing anthem, Finlandia, places us amid a nation’s struggle for identity, while Jennifer Higdon’s blue cathedral depicts “a symbolic doorway into and out of this world.” Gustav Mahler’s Fourth Symphony picks up the thread with its glowing finale, sung by soprano Hannah Cho.
