Ravi Coltrane: Coltrane Centennial Celebration
Just days before John Coltrane would have turned 100, saxophonist Ravi Coltrane presents a blazing young band to mark the milestone. After decades developing his own lustrous, harmonically ambiguous voice, Coltrane has increasingly championed the legacy of his parents, John and Alice Coltrane, through ensembles and projects on and off the bandstand.
At The UC Theatre, he performs with trumpeter Jonathan Finlayson, pianist and keyboardist Gadi Lehavi, bassist TBA, and Bay Area–reared drummer Elé Howell. Doors open at 7 p.m.; the show begins at 8 p.m.
