On Thursday, August 27th, the Union Square Alliance gathered at The Marker Union Square with district members, city partners, sponsors, and friends to celebrate a Summer of Love-themed Bloomie Awards—a toast to the close of the six-month Union Square In Bloom campaign, presented by JPMorganChase. Guests arrived dressed in their grooviest ’70s Flower Power apparel and were invited to select a flower crown from a station designed by Zaddy Blooms. The Alliance was honored to be joined by Rafael Mandelman, President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, who helped celebrate the team behind Historic John’s Grill for their efforts behind On Ellis, as well as each of the Bloomed hotels in Union Square: Axiom Hotel, Hotel Zelos, Hotel Zeppelin, Hotel Zetta, The Chancellor Hotel & Suites, Taj Campton Place, Hotel Stratford, Hotel Abri, San Francisco Marriott Union Square, and The Marker Union Square.
This year marked the biggest, boldest, and most impactful Bloom yet. Tulip Day, presented by JPMorganChase, set new foot traffic records for the event, drawing more than 110,000 visitors to the district. The Bloom Fashion Show, presented by Levi Strauss & Co. in partnership with the With Love Halston Foundation and Academy of Art University, brought three dream partnerships to life. Union Square’s Local Garden, presented by JPMorganChase and Amazon, launched as a five-month-long program through which the Alliance partnered with 23 local businesses to host free activations and offer week-long promotions to the public.
EDM beats from the Bloom Music Series On Ellis, presented by Levi Strauss & Co., carried the district through the summer and were made even more special by an unforgettable collaboration with Dirtybird at the final show on August 20th.
The Union Square Alliance extends its gratitude to everyone who joined the Bloomie Awards, every business and partner who brought Bloom to life this year: to JPMorganChase, Amazon, Levi Strauss & Co., United Airlines, Mayor Daniel Lurie, the SF Office of Economic & Workforce Development, and the San Francisco Downtown Development Corporation for their continued support. The success of Bloom would not be possible without the dedication and collaboration of the district’s community, businesses, and partners.
