An All Star Tribute to Denise Perrier
January 28 @ 1:00 PM PST
Denise Perrier was a jazz vocalist beloved throughout the US, Europe, Russia and in her last years a great favorite in Cuba. Tonight you’ll hear many of the Bay Area’s greatest Jazz musicians celebrate her life.
Born in Louisiana and raised in the Bay Area, she was known for more than her beautiful voice, you felt the emotion of her songs. One of her Cuban musicians put it best – “Yes, she has a beautiful voice but it is more than that. It is her alma that you feel: her soul!” Denise was in the studio just months before her death at 82. A rare disease affected her vocal cords, her lungs, her heart, there was an oxygen tank in the studio. But she was determined to record a last CD and was excited, to record with some old friends like George Cables, Tammy Hall and Marcus Shelby and with some new ones like Howard Wiley.
