Activist, author, educator, and cultural icon Angela Davis reflects on more than 65 years of work across Black liberation, feminism, queer politics, and prison abolition. From the international campaign for her freedom in the 1970s to her teaching, organizing, public speaking, and 11 influential books, Davis has remained a major voice in movements for racial and social justice.

Davis takes Nina Simone’s “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free” as a point of departure, considering how the anthem’s vision of liberation can help people imagine freedom in the present. The event concludes with a conversation with Poulomi Saha, UC Berkeley associate professor of English and chair of the Program in Critical Theory.
