The Attacca Quartet opens its Cal Performances residency with Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw, who joins the ensemble on voice and violin. Their creative partnership has already produced two Grammy-winning recordings—Orange and Evergreen—and continues to explore the porous boundary between art song and chamber music.

Shaw’s writing brings vocal expression, string texture, joy, and an untamed sense of discovery into the quartet setting. The performance showcases an ensemble-composer relationship in which the creators’ shared history is as important as the individual works; detailed program notes will be announced closer to the performance.
