Dorian Reid: Calling All Cats!
Dorian Reid transforms MoAD’s Emerging Artist Gallery into a spirited world of ceramic cats, printed ephemera, protest signs, flags and performance. The installation connects Reid’s family history with the Black Panther Party to her present-day advocacy for civil rights, animal welfare and community care.
Calling All Cats! centers the Black Cat Revolution, a movement Reid founded to challenge prejudice while raising support for cats and neighbors. The exhibition also draws on the legacy of Reid’s Records, the Berkeley record store founded by her grandparents Betty Reid Soskin and Mel Reid.
