Spike Lee enjoyed tremendous critical and box office success with BlacKkKlansman. The story would be dismissed as far-fetched if it weren’t true. In 1972, Colorado Springs’ first African American police officer investigated the local Ku Klux Klan chapter by posing as white on the phone, while sending a Jewish colleague to impersonate him at KKK meetings. From there, things got crazier. BlacKkKlansman scored Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor for Adam Driver, with Lee winning Best Adapted Screenplay.
