Invisible Atlas

October 23 - October 25

Invisible Atlas is interdisciplinary Butoh dance and multimedia performance exploring the invisible traces of nuclear history and the environmental realities that continue beneath our everyday life’s. The work connects the memories of Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Fukushima with present-day concerns surrounding nuclear weapons, radioactive contamination, and nuclear waste-including the history of radioactive waste buried in areas around the San Francisco Bay Area.

Blending Butoh, contemporary dance, acting, poetry, animation, immersive projections, live Shakuhachi, and Taiko, Invisible Atlas uses the human body, sound, and visual imagery to give form to what is often unseen.

Through performance, we hope to create a space for audiences to reflect on the past, become more aware of the realities that remain with us today, and imagine the future we want to create.
