Trumpeter Wynton Marsalis returns for his final Bay Area appearance with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra before stepping down after the ensemble’s 2026–27 season.

An NEA Jazz Master and one of the most influential figures in contemporary music, Marsalis has been a tireless advocate for jazz as America’s classical music. From his New Orleans beginnings and fiery debut with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, he has earned nine Grammy Awards and became the first jazz artist to receive the Pulitzer Prize for Music.

Since 1988, Marsalis has led the 15-piece Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, expanding the idea of a modern big band while honoring the legacies of Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong and presenting new commissions by major composers. This farewell appearance marks the close of an important chapter in that history.
