Kara Walker
June 6 @ 7:30 PM PDT
New York-based artist Kara Walker is best known for her candid investigation of race, gender, sexuality, and violence through large-scale silhouetted figures that have appeared in numerous exhibitions worldwide. Walker was awarded a MacArthur fellowship in 1997, at the age of 28, becoming one of the youngest ever recipients of the award. Her work can be found in museums and public collections throughout the United States and Europe including The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; The Tate Gallery, London; and many more. With an imagination fueled by rage, sorrow, and compassion, Walker will debut a large-scale installation for the Roberts Family Gallery at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in July 2024, a glass-enclosed gallery and one of the museum’s most prominent public spaces – a detail that is sure to play into Walker’s piece.
