Kodo returns with Luminance, a production celebrating the ensemble’s 45th anniversary and the soul-stirring power of taiko. The company combines supreme athleticism, tightly controlled choreography, and the overwhelming resonance of enormous drums in a performance that connects contemporary stagecraft with the ritual force of Japanese drumming.

The program gathers highlights from Kodo’s most popular tours, including the mighty o-daiko solo and the climactic “Yatai-Bayashi.” It also honors Maki Ishii’s influential composition “Monochrome,” scored for 10 drums and two large, deeply resonant gongs.
