Lalo Guerrero Legacy Festival: Rockin’ Jalapeño Band and Mark Guerrero with Jerry Salas
The Freight’s second Lalo Guerrero Legacy Festival honors the “Father of Chicano Music” with the Rockin’ Jalapeño Band, Mark Guerrero, and guest Jerry Salas, hosted by Chuy Varela. Co-curated by PC Muñoz and Guerrero’s son Mark, the festival celebrates an artist whose work ranged across rancheras, corridos, cumbias, salsa, swing, rock, blues, and more.
The Rockin’ Jalapeño Band continues founder José “Dr. Loco” Cuéllar’s vision of a distinctly Chicano sound joining rock, traditional Mexican music, Caribbean rhythm, and R&B with cultural advocacy and social consciousness. The ensemble’s rhythm section and horn line carry that energetic legacy forward.
