Lukas Sternath, piano
Pianist Lukas Sternath brings a rapidly rising international career to Berkeley. A protégé of Igor Levit and Paul Lewis, the former Vienna Boys Choir singer has earned major competition honors and orchestral engagements, including a debut with the Vienna Philharmonic.
The recital begins with Schubert songs transcribed by Liszt, including “Der Wanderer,” “Frühlingsglaube,” and “Auf dem Wasser zu singen.” Schubert’s restless Wanderer Fantasy follows, and Liszt’s second book of Années de pèlerinage closes the program with the Petrarch Sonnets and the monumental Dante Sonata.
