Mitsuko Uchida, piano

Pianist Mitsuko Uchida returns to Berkeley in a solo recital devoted to composers she has explored across decades of performances and recordings. Celebrated for sensitivity, clarity, and deep musical insight, Uchida was named Musical America’s 2022 Artist of the Year and has held a major artistic leadership role at the Marlboro Music Festival for more than 20 years.
Her program moves through sharply contrasting worlds: Haydn’s inventive Variations in F minor, Schoenberg’s compressed Six Little Piano Pieces, Mozart’s playful yet searching Rondo in A minor, Kurtág’s miniature Márta ligaturája, and Schubert’s expansive late Piano Sonata in A major, D. 959.
