Rumi Abe Quartet
Japanese jazz pianist Rumi Abe leads a quartet with Kasey Knudsen on saxophone, John Wiitala on bass and Akira Tana on drums. Before relocating to San Francisco, Abe maintained an active performance career in Tokyo and released her debut trio album in 2022.
Her playing draws on studies in theory and composition at Yamaha Music School and work with pianists Fumio Karashima and Josh Nelson. Since moving to the Bay Area in 2024, she has performed throughout Northern California as a bandleader and collaborator, blending lyricism, swing and melodic storytelling.
