South African drummer and composer Tumi Mogorosi belongs to an imposing trap set lineage that includes Louis Moholo-Moholo, Makaya Ntshoko and Ayanda Sikade. Making his California debut as part of a Southern African Arts Alliance program celebrating the 30thanniversary of Freedom Day, South Africa’s first democratic elections, this powerhouse jazz artist has honed a distinctive South African approach to the polyrhythmic tradition of Elvin Jones, Max Roach and Art Blakey.
