Through a lens of radical optimism, the Trash Falcons transform the discarded debris of urban life into works that are at once whimsical, provocative, and profoundly beautiful. By elevating found objects to the realm of fine art, this exhibition challenges us to confront our own hand in the ecological narrative and asks: What do we leave behind, and what beauty can we grow from the wreckage?

Black Choreographers Festival: Here & Now
The 21st edition of the Black Choreographers Festival (BCF) opens with two two back-to-back weekends February 21 – March 1. A total of 18 choreographers will take part, and more than half will premiere new works between 5 and 15 minutes in length. For the remainder, the festival will present a mix of Bay Area premieres and excerpts of longer works in development. The participating artists run the gamut in their histories, dance lineages and life experiences.

Bouquets to Art Floral Demonstration – Bloom Where You’re Rooted: Culture and Floral Design
Join Gina Lett-Shrewsberry, former Bouquets to Art exhibitor and owner of floral and event design studio Inspirations by Gina, and Teresa Speight, author of Black Flora: Inspiring Profiles of Floriculture’s New Vanguard. They will speak about the African American experience in floriculture, the magic of gardens, and how to bring beauty inside the home. Combining floral finds from the San Francisco Botanical Garden and San Francisco Flower Mart with cultural wisdom from the speakers’ Southern roots, this promises to be an event to remember. Teresa (Teri) J. Speight speaks locally and internationally on the African American floral experience, shade gardening, urban gardening, Earth-friendly practices for gardeners, and more. She is co-author of The Urban Garden: 101 Ways to Grow Food and Beauty in the City and runs the blog and podcast Cottage in the Court. Gina Lett-Shrewsbury was the first African American floral designer to participate in Bouquets to Art in 2023.
