Joe Bataan & MeloDious

Latin soul pioneer Joe Bataan headlines a free afternoon on the Great Lawn with Oakland vocal trio MeloDious. Raised in Spanish Harlem by a Filipino father and African American mother, Bataan helped define boogaloo and later coined “salsoul” for his blend of salsa, soul, R&B and Afro-Caribbean rhythm.
MeloDious opens with harmonies rooted in gospel, jazz, R&B and soul. KALW DJ Marcus begins the pre-show at 1 p.m.; the concert starts at 2 p.m.
Event: Saturday, October 17, 2–4:30 p.m.
