Alice Gerrard & Friends, Justin Robinson, and Forty Drop Few: Berkeley Old Time Music Convention
The Berkeley Old Time Music Convention brings a concentrated evening of fiddle tunes, ballads, string-band rhythm and living tradition to the Freight. The program features Alice Gerrard, whose influential work in old-time and bluegrass has made her both a treasured performer and an advocate for traditional artists, alongside musician and cultural historian Justin Robinson and the string band Forty Drop Few.
Together, the artists show how old-time music moves through communities rather than standing still. Songs learned across generations meet distinctive voices, regional histories and the spontaneous lift of musicians playing face to face. The concert is part of a five-day celebration that also includes dances, workshops, jams and a string-band contest.
