Emory Douglas: In Our Lifetime
Emory Douglas: In Our Lifetime surveys more than 50 years of work by the revolutionary artist and former Minister of Culture for the Black Panther Party. Across prints, cartoons, portraits, murals, digital media, and collaborative works, the exhibition follows Douglas’ development of a visual language built to communicate political ideas directly and powerfully.
Installations throughout AAACC examine his Black Panther newspaper work, the faces and iconography of resistance, and his continuing engagement with liberation movements in Haiti, Palestine, and beyond. The exhibition also considers Douglas’ influence on contemporary artists and activists and his belief that culture can function as a weapon against oppression.
The exhibition contains historic and contemporary depictions of violence, armed revolution, the detention of children, and international conflict.
