Dirk & Amelia Powell
Dirk and Amelia Powell bring the intertwined musical histories of Louisiana and Appalachia to the stage as a father-daughter duo. Amelia grew up inside the Cajun tradition of her grandfather, fiddler and cultural ambassador Dewey Balfa, while learning old-time Appalachian music with Dirk, whose own banjo, fiddle and guitar playing traces back to family roots in Kentucky.
Together they perform traditional material and original songs with the ease, trust and humor of family musicians who share more than repertoire. Hard-driving guitar, soulful vocals and deeply felt instrumental playing reveal how heritage changes when passed from one generation to the next. The result is intimate roots music shaped by memory, place and genuine connection.
