Eight Bay Area artists explore the surfaces of bodies and objects as critical sites of identity formation and material possibility. Works from the Svane gift and related holdings move across painting, textiles, sculpture, and mixed media.
The exhibition asks how texture, pattern, skin, fabric, and constructed layers can carry social meaning while testing the boundaries of artistic form.
