Charles Tolliver Presents ‘Africa/Brass’
Trumpeter and composer Charles Tolliver honors John Coltrane’s centennial with Africa/Brass: Trane Forever, performing Coltrane’s landmark 1961 large-ensemble album with a power-packed quintet and brass orchestra.
A towering figure in the post-Coltrane movement known as spiritual jazz, Tolliver co-founded the influential Strata-East label and built a career around fiery improvisation and visionary orchestral writing. His ensemble includes Marcus Strickland, Keith Brown, Ugonna Okegwo and Darrell Green, joined by a brass orchestra from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
