Cimafunk
Cimafunk welcomes the new year with his soulful blend of funk and hip-hop with rhythms from Cuba and across the Afro-Caribbean world.
Born Erik Alejandro Iglesias RodrÃguez in Pinar del RÃo, Cuba, the vocalist developed a style he calls Afro-Cuban funk and has collaborated with Chucho Valdés, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Stylo G and George Clinton. Joined by his band La Tribu, he returns to SFJAZZ following his 2025 San Francisco Jazz Festival appearance.
The celebration also follows the Grammy nomination for Pa’ Tu Cuerpa. Cimafunk’s emphasis on freedom connects his Cuban and Afro-Caribbean rhythmic foundations with the band’s funk-driven dance music, bringing La Tribu back for a New Year’s celebration.
