Bilal

Philadelphia native Bilal has spent more than two decades expanding the boundaries of contemporary R&B. A classically trained vocalist with a background in jazz and big-band arrangements, he emerged as a member of the influential Soulquarians collective alongside artists including Erykah Badu, D’Angelo, Common, J Dilla, The Roots and Q-Tip. His acclaimed debut album, 1st Born Second, introduced audiences to his remarkable vocal range and the hit “Soul Sista,” launching a career defined by adventurous work across soul, jazz, funk, rock, hip-hop and electronic music.
That restless creativity continues with Bilal’s latest studio album, Adjust Brightness, which blends his soul and jazz foundations with futuristic, electronic and abstract textures. At August Hall, Bilal brings that unmistakable voice, improvisational energy and genre-defying catalog to an all-ages San Francisco performance beginning at 8 p.m.
