Black History Month: Empowering Black Voices

February 20 @ 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM PST

Join us for a powerful event celebrating Black History Month where we uplift and empower Black voices together!

Join GLIDE’s Center for Social Justice in celebrating Black History Month, recognizing the positive impact of Black people on American History. This is a time to appreciate Blackness and how it’s present in all aspects of society! This is a time to hold and celebrate the achievements of Black Americans!

We are honored to feature newly elected congressional representative Lateefah Simon, a progressive and trailblazing Black leader who has committed her career to advocating for the rights and dreams of the Black community, alongside State Controller Malia Cohen, who champions policies and programs that protect public health, foster economic development, promote new affordable housing, and create good jobs.

This event will focus on the intersection of political power, community mobilization, and grassroots activism. How can we use this combination of forces to advance the political and socioeconomic well-being of Black communities across the nation? Through her experiences, vision, and leadership, Lateefah Simon will inspire and empower participants to engage in political processes and work together to create lasting change, and Controller Cohen will offer valuable insight into how our tax dollars at all levels of government shape our lives.

This event is a unique opportunity to come together and honor Black history while looking towards a brighter future.
