Blake Pouliot, violin; Henry Kramer, piano

Canadian violinist Blake Pouliot and pianist Henry Kramer explore the influence of song on instrumental music in a program spanning Schubert, Dvořák, Fauré, Chausson, Hubay, and a new Cal Performances co-commission. Their close partnership brings lyricism and virtuosity to music shaped by the human voice.
The program includes Schubert’s monumental Fantasy in C major, D. 934; Pouliot’s arrangements of Dvořák’s Zigeunerlieder and songs by Fauré; Chausson’s Poème; and Hubay’s Carmen Fantasie. California composer and UC Berkeley alumnus Jimmy López is represented by the West Coast premiere of Memento Mei.
