Christian McBride with Benny Green & Gregory Hutchinson
Bass virtuoso Christian McBride honors his mentor and greatest inspiration, Ray Brown, with an all-star trio of Brown alumni: pianist Benny Green and drummer Gregory Hutchinson.
A major figure in the development of bebop and hard bop during the 1940s and ’50s, Brown was among the most prolific and versatile bassists in jazz history, gaining renown through his work with Oscar Peterson, Ella Fitzgerald and Dizzy Gillespie. He led a series of remarkable trios during the 1990s and 2000s featuring Green and Hutchinson, whose recordings remain benchmarks for the format.
McBride appeared on Brown’s 1997 live bass summit SuperBass and its 2001 follow-up, SuperBass 2. An 11-time Grammy Award-winning bandleader and recording artist, McBride brings his own extensive histories with Green and Hutchinson to this centennial tribute.
