Debashish Bhattacharya & George Brooks with Eman Hashimi, Rohan Krishnamurthy and Suryadipta Bhattacharya
Indian slide-guitar master Debashish Bhattacharya and saxophonist George Brooks make their highly anticipated duo debut at the Freight after years of friendship, writing and musical exchange. Both artists bridge Indian classical music with contemporary improvisation, bringing raga’s melodic depth and rhythmic complexity into an open conversation with jazz.
They are joined by tabla player Eman Hashimi, Carnatic percussionist Rohan Krishnamurthy and Bhattacharya’s son and protégé Suryadipta Bhattacharya in his U.S. debut. Custom slide guitars, saxophone and layered percussion create a program built on spiritual focus, virtuosity and responsive ensemble playing. The performance honors Hindustani and Carnatic traditions while treating collaboration as a place where new musical languages can emerge.
