Fabiana Cozza

Fabiana Cozza brings the breadth of Brazilian samba to the stage as singer, interpreter and keeper of an Afro-Brazilian cultural inheritance. Raised close to the Camisa Verde e Branco samba school through her father, Oswaldo dos Santos, she absorbed a tradition in which music is inseparable from community, memory, celebration and survival.
Her performance follows samba through the many worlds it holds: the ancestral sounds of the terreiros, the colors and rhythms of Bahia, the circles of Rio de Janeiro and the musical pathways that helped give rise to bossa nova. Cozza’s powerful voice does more than present a style; it reveals samba as a social language shaped under racial oppression and continually reinvented through the bodies, histories and imagination of Black Brazilians.
