Gather & Make: Fused Glass Sugar Skull

At The Crucible, Gather & Make invites participants to mark Día de los Muertos with a fused-glass skull honoring loved ones and memories. Choose a 4-by-6-inch hanging decoration or a piece shaped in the kiln into a bowl. Starting with a precut skull, arrange colored glass dots, slender glass strips, hearts, flowers and other accents; participants can also make glass flowers of their own. Designs may follow traditional sugar-skull patterns or take a personal direction.
The workshop welcomes beginners, families, friends and couples. It is open to ages 7 and older; anyone younger than 12 must be accompanied by an adult. The studio will fire finished designs after class, and participants will return to collect them. The Crucible is two blocks from West Oakland BART and offers bicycle parking.
