Gilles Vonsattel Piano Recital
Pianist Gilles Vonsattel and Music@Menlo continue a landmark presentation of Beethoven’s complete piano sonatas across eight Bay Area concerts. This Stanford Live installment pairs two early sonatas with the monumental Hammerklavier, tracing Beethoven’s development from youthful brilliance toward the bold, deeply personal language of his late style.
The program includes Piano Sonata No. 11 in B-flat major, Op. 22; Piano Sonata No. 10 in G major, Op. 14, No. 2; and Piano Sonata No. 29 in B-flat major, Op. 106. Heard together, the works offer a concentrated view of Beethoven’s methodical craft, experimentation and expanding expressive scale.
