Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis

Trumpeter, composer, and artistic director Wynton Marsalis brings his final tour as managing and artistic director of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra to Berkeley. The appearance marks a major transition in Marsalis’ four-decade effort to establish jazz as America’s classical music and build lasting institutional support for the form.
The orchestra’s program is designed to display its extraordinary range, moving among original compositions and arrangements, New Orleans swing and blues, bebop, and the majestic language of Duke Ellington. Marsalis leads an ensemble known for combining historical command with polished virtuosity and living, hard-driving performance energy.
