Director Peter Phillips leads the Tallis Scholars in Renaissance polyphony shaped by the ensemble’s celebrated vocal blend, pristine clarity, and purity of tone. More than 50 years after Phillips first gathered singers at Oxford, the group remains a defining force in the modern revival of early vocal music.

The program centers on Josquin des Prez’s Missa Fortuna desperata, presented through its Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei movements. Antoine Busnois’ “Fortuna desperata” supplies the mass’s source material, while motets by Jean Mouton and Walter Lambe and works by Nicolas Gombert—including Magnificat III and the 10-voice Regina caeli—place Josquin’s masterpiece in a wider Renaissance sound world.
