Woody De Othello: coming forth by day
Oakland artist Woody De Othello’s solo exhibition explores the primordial relationship between body, earth, and spirit through new works that combine material experimentation with sculptural gesture. Othello honors Northern California’s ceramic tradition while drawing on knowledge and philosophies from around the world through a decolonial lens.
The exhibition considers how objects carry history, absorb meaning, and become vessels for spiritual and emotional experience. It includes a new bronze sculpture created specifically for UC Davis. Originated by Pérez Art Museum Miami, coming forth by day is presented at the Manetti Shrem Museum as its only California venue.
