Yefim Bronfman Plays Rachmaninoff
Gustavo Gimeno leads the Symphony in a spectacular Slavic program, full of passion and pyrotechnics. Unfurling from a simple melody sung by the piano, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 grows in complexity and scope culminating in a torrent of bravura. Pianist Yefim Bronfman serves as the ideal translator, conveying all the composer’s nuances and idioms. Borodin’s melting-pot score to Prince Igor boasts not only authentic Caucasian tunes but also melodies inspired by North Africa and the Middle East.
