SFJAZZ held the 2022 SFJAZZ Gala and concert honoring Wynton Marsalis with the SFJAZZ Lifetime Achievement Award on Friday, June 3, 2022 at the SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco. The SFJAZZ Gala raised money for the organization’s artistic and education programs. The SFJAZZ Gala Concert celebrated Marsalis’s decorated career and immense body of work with exclusive performances by Marsalis, trumpeter Terence Blanchard, vocalist Catherine Russell, the SFJAZZ Collective with saxophonist Chris Potter, vocalist Gretchen Parlato, tenor saxophonist David Sánchez, trumpeter Etienne Charles, vibraphonist Warren Wolf, pianist Edward Simon, bassist Matt Brewer, drummer Kendrick Scott, and vocalist Martin Luther McCoy, plus Harlem Quartet, pianist Isaiah Thompson, bassist Philip Norris, drummer Domo Branch, and the award-winning SFJAZZ High School All-Stars.
