Shrek the Musical
Berkeley Playhouse presents Shrek the Musical, a lively stage adventure based on the DreamWorks animated film and William Steig’s book. When the reclusive ogre Shrek finds his swamp overrun by banished fairy-tale characters, he strikes a deal with Lord Farquaad and sets off with the irrepressible Donkey to rescue Princess Fiona. The journey turns familiar storybook rules upside down while celebrating friendship, self-acceptance and finding love in unexpected places.
The musical features music by Jeanine Tesori and a book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire. The Berkeley Playhouse production is directed by Elizabeth McKoy, with music direction by Michael Patrick Wiles and choreography by Karen Canfield.
Accessibility performances include an audio-described and haptic-access performance on May 23, an ASL-interpreted performance on May 30 and a sensory-friendly performance on June 5.
