Brian Blade & The Fellowship Band
Grammy-winning drummer and composer Brian Blade brings The Fellowship Band back to SFJAZZ to perform music from across the ensemble’s seven studio releases.
Blade formed the Fellowship in 1997 with pianist Jon Cowherd. The current band features Blade and Cowherd with saxophonists Melvin Butler and Myron Walden and bassist Christopher Thomas, drawing on the gospel foundation of Blade’s Shreveport upbringing and decades of modern jazz.
This is the Fellowship’s first SFJAZZ appearance since 2018. Its recorded journey includes Kings Highway, released on Blade’s Stoner Hill label, and the concert draws on the ensemble’s long musical partnership rather than a single album.
